Marble Lion Fu Dogs

Carved in the late 1890s in Shanxi, China from a single piece of white marble. Found as stone mounting guardians at Buddhist temples, they are considered to be sacred. Symbols of wisdom, power and protection, they provide demon scaring for ancient palaces, temples, businesses and homes. The male is usually depicted holding a globe to signify external protection, while the female holds a child which signifies protection of members of the household or premise.

Each one measures 11" wide, 18" deep and 43" tall. Delivery on Oahu by Honolulu Academy of Arts at no additional charge. Time and date to be mutually agreed upon. For neighbor islands, HAA can make arrangements for delivery to the Honolulu Airport.

What the Doctor Ordered

Fine wine, imported cheeses and exotic fruit tasting for ten at the East Honolulu beachside home of Dr. John and Kumi Lederer. European and domestic wine varietals from the personal cellar of John and Kumi Lederer are paired with supreme aged imported cheeses flown overnight from the Beverly Hills Cheese Store. Among the largest collections of cheeses in the world, the Beverly Hills Cheese Store supplies connoisseurs, seasoned entertainers as well as top restaurants across Los Angeles. Rare fruits from the finest fruit nurseries in Waimanalo, make for exotic compliments. Four hosts provide service and descriptives. Date to be mutually agreed upon with sufficient notice. The Reserve Cabernet is “a superb Cabernet with cream de cassis, a big beefy, smoky character interlaced with rich, dense, smooth style.” The Reserve Claret is a “gorgeous effort, deep ruby/purple with a stunning perfume of mocha, espresso and spices,” RP 94 for both.

Diamond Creek Triple

The Red Rock Terrace is an austere, rustic style that veers from ripe cherry and plum fruit to dry, chewy, gritty tannins, finishing with a mouth-puckering aftertaste and a twinge of bitterness. Fans of bare-knuckle Cabernet will find this most pleasing. Wine Spectator 86 points. Volcanic Hill is a dark, rich, immensely concentrated wine, with tiers of current, anise, blackberry, fresh earth and cedary oak that pack in lots of flavor. Wine Spectator 91 points. The Gravelly Meadow is intense and earthy with grapey flavors that are a touch prickly, tasting like they just finished fermenting. Wine Spectator 91.

2001 Marcassin Pinot Noir, "Three Sisters Vineyard" by Helen Turley. This expansive, rich, full-bodied effort reminded Robert Parker of a grand cru of Morey-St.-Denis. 95 points.

2005 Peter Michael Chardonnay “Belle Cote". A nose of intense notes of mandarin oranges, tangerines, and tropical fruits" RP 96 pts. and 2004 Peter Michael “Les Pavots" a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the hillside vineyard. “Stunning with an opaque purple color, notes of blueberries, licorice and sweet smoky oak,” RP 94 points.
